Mike Titgemeyer – President, CPYB

Tartan 4300 at rest in Back Creek, MD

Mike joined Crusader Yacht Sales in 2010 and bought Crusader in 2011. He is a lifelong sailor and sailing industry professional.

Growing up on Lake Erie near Mentor Harbor Yacht Club, boating was the family sport. Living on the water, it was easier to dinghy to the club than walk or ride a bike. So dinghies and small sailboats were just part of the landscape. A product of the Jr Junior Sailing program at MHYC, Mike sailed the Sprites, El Toros, FJs, Lasers, Thistles and the likes as a youth. When Mike turned twelve the family purchased their first “big boat”, a C&C 33 and the racing itch was scratched. Subsequent boats included a C&C custom 40 and C&C custom 42. In 1994 Mike bought an old J24 and started paving his own sailing roads. The J24 was sold in 2010, but there are always a few boats in the stable at Eastport YC for the Titgemeyer family enjoyment. Mike’s sailing achievements include, several regatta wins at local and national events and quite a few miles offshore (over 6,000) to destinations like Bermuda, Halifax, Nova Scotia and Mackinac Island. Whether daysailing with the family or offshore racing with friends, sailing and the enjoyment of the water have remained constant for Mike and his family.

Professionally, Mike has been blessed to have always worked in the marine industry. Through High School and College he worked and managed a small rigging shop in Grand River, Ohio, just up the street from the Tartan and Douglas McLeod boat shops. In 1996 Mike started his professional entanglement with Tartan, first as Service Manager and then as National Sales Manager  for Tartan. In 2001 Mike relocated to Annapolis to open the first of the Tartan “factory” dealerships. Mike managed the three offices on the Chesapeake leading national sales for Tartan along the way.

In 2010, with the sale of Tartan Marine Company(Builder of the Tartan & Legacy brands) to Steve and Stephanie Malbasa, Mike joined Crusader Yacht Sales team. Mike was a welcome addition to the Crusader team, his 15 years of experience selling Tartan products made him a valuable resource.

Mike then bought Crusader Yacht Sales in 2011 and continues the Crusader traditions of quality, professional sales and service.

He is respected and well liked in the industry and has a strong following of loyal customers. Having delivered over a 100 new boats, his product knowledge and professional approach are unsurpassed.

Mike is a CPYB (Certified Professional Yacht Broker) and current sits on the YBAA board of Directors ( Yacht Brokers Association of America), ASIA ( Annapolis Sailing Industry Association) as well as volunteering as a trustee at his church and community HOA President.  Most of all he enjoys relaxing with his girls on or off the water!

“Mike – Little did I know in October 2009, when we met at the Annapolis Boat Show, I would be the proud owner of one of your boats and be writing about my purchase experience months later.

From the outset, your focus on understanding my interests and needs. Your provision of solid advice and counsel at the right times and on the right subjects. Your attention to detail at every step of the ordering and purchasing process, as well as after the delivery period, made me a huge fan of yours!

What also prompts me to express my appreciation is the importance of recognizing your customer/client philosophy. I say customer/client philosophy because I believe once a buyer purchases his or her first boat from you, they return for the next…I know I will!

I intend to tell prospective buyers that I meet that they will be well served to seek you out. They will be in good hands!”

-Tim Caruso, Tartan 3700 owner

“Mike went the extra 300 miles for us, flying up to Connecticut to be with us for the survey. His knowledge of the boat and attention to detail was outstanding – beyond that of the owner or the surveyor! Mike continues to be a trusted and valuable resource today as we cruise around the Bay. We love our Tartan 3500 and will look to Mike again whee it is time to sell or buy another boat! “
