1994 Freedom 45 Aft Cockpit

Master stateroom: As you enter the master stateroom, on your right there is a cedar lined hanging locker followed by shelving with double doors. The entire top provides divided storage as well. The berth is 83” long, 19” at the foot and 77” at the shoulder. There are two large drawers beneath the berth. Cherry staving lines the hulls on either side above the berth and radiused drop-front lockers line the hullsides above the staving. LED rope lighting is installed under the cabinets. The space is warm, inviting and well ventilated, with three opening ports, an overhead hatch, a pair of 12-volt fans, two overhead lights and two reading lights. Headroom in her is 6’3”. 

Forward head:  The ensuite head is accessed via a sliding door on the port side of the cabin. As you enter, the sink and counters are to the right. At the aft end of the counter is a top loading hamper. There are two lockers beneath the counter and a pair of medicine cabinets on either end, with an opening port between the two. The head is at the aft end of the space on the right; across from that are the shower controls and wand. Headroom in here is 6’ 2”. Lighting and ventilation is provided by an opening port, an overhead hatch, two overhead lights and LED rope lighting under the soffit above the porthole. 

Salon:  The salon in the Freedom 45 is warm, comfortable, inviting and has plenty of storage.  The settee on starboard has storage the entire space beneath as well as behind it. It serves as a good sea berth, at 6’4” long. There is a double doored locker above it, with two levels of fiddled bookshelves on either end of it.

Across on port, the L-shaped settee pulls out to convert to a 6’4” x 36” berth; there is storage beneath and behind this settee as well. Above it is the opposite of the starboard side, with double doored lockers on either end and two shelves with rails between them. There is a coffee table with a reversible top that doubles as a serving tray. The dinette is wall mounted, keeping the space nice and open when not in use. When down, it will seat four; open the leaf and several more can be seated on starboard.

Headroom in the salon is 6’4”. Lighting and ventilation is from two fixed ports, two opening ports, three overhead hatches, two dorade vents, an Alpenglow light and four reading lights.

Galley:  On port at the base of the companionway, the U-shaped galley is well thought out for offshore work. A massive sink is oriented on centerline and has an integral stainless steel drain board. Beneath it and in a well-insulated compartment is the engine, so there is good access from all four sides to work on it.  

The forward end of the galley has a fiddled countertop space with three drawers beneath it and a drop-front door locker below that.

Moving around along the hullside are the top-loading freezer and refrigerator, these have a fiddled shelf running along the hull behind it. Aft of the refrigerator is the stove and oven. Beneath the oven is a nice-sized locker for pot and pan storage; above it is a microwave and behind the stove is a cubby for cutting boards and such.

Ventilation in the galley is great, with three opening ports, an overhead hatch, and a fan. Additional lighting is from an Alpenglow light overhead and two LED lights above the stove and refrigerator areas. Headroom in here is 6’3”.  

Nav station: The nav station is at the bottom of the companionway on port and aft of the galley. As you enter, the headroom is 6’4”. The nav top is huge- 52” x 24”- and has lots of storage space beneath the lid. There is a swing-out nav seat that swivels and stows neatly out of the way when it isn’t in use. Above the nav top are hinged panels for the electrical panels and electronics.  

There is a 75” x 32” quarter berth aft of the nav station, allowing the captain to be by the companionway and with the nav instruments immediately available. Along the hullside and aft of the nav seat is a 51” long fiddled counter that runs to the transom at the same height as the nav top and then a fiddled shelf above that the same length. Below the counter are two drawers and a drop-front locker. Lighting and ventilation are from one fixed light, one opening port into the cockpit, an overhead hatch, one reading light and one Alpenglow. There is a privacy curtain to close the space off when wanted. 

Aft head: The aft head is on starboard at the base of the companionway and is accessed via a sliding door. As you enter, the sink and counter is in front of you. There is a locker beneath the counter and a mirrored door medicine cabinet above it, with another locker to the right of that. The head is to the right of the sink. To the left of the sink is the shower stall, with the spray wand on a height-adjustable bar. The outboard side of the stall has hanging rods for wet gear. Headroom in here is 6’ 2”. Lighting and ventilation is provided by three opening ports, an overhead hatch and two overhead lights. 

Aft stateroom: Located on starboard at the base of the companionway, the aft cabin is comfortable and has plenty of storage. A bi-fold door provides entry to the space. There is a cedar lined hanging locker to the left, with a fiddled shelf above it. To the right of that is a counter with two drawers and a drop-front locker beneath that; at the back of the counter is another locker. Staving lines the hullside next to the berth, which is a comfortable 76” x 49” x 33”. A large shelf is mounted above the bed at the foot, which is out of the way but provides loads of storage that is out of the way. 

Headroom in here is 6’3”; lighting and ventilation is from a 12v fan, an overhead hatch, an Alpenglow light, a reading light, and a fixed light in the housetop.
