2003 Passport 456

Unlike many modern passage making yacht designs, the Passport 456 features an easy-to-access center cockpit with easy step-through side coaming cutouts.  A full clear vinyl and screened enclosure protects you from the elements and allows for fair or foul weather sailing with cockpit seating that is almost 7 feet long.  A high cockpit coaming provides comfortable seating wrapped around the central Edison wheel and pedestal.  The electric primary winches are easily reachable from the helm for single-handed sailing.  An electric halyard winch allows for push-button sail deployment and retrieval. All major running rigging leads aft to and around the cockpit so that solo-handling the rig is a cinch.

Stepping down the companionway steps, you enter into the spacious main salon.  The Passport 456 layout provides fantastic space throughout.  To the port lies a beautiful u-shaped settee and to starboard is a long salon settee stretching forward from the nav station.  The teak table has a telescoping support pole for dropping down to create a double berth.  There is ample storage above and behind all of the ultra-leather upholstered salon seating. The teak and holly cabin sole is step-free throughout the yacht, an uncommon feature in this size of center cockpit yacht.

At the base of the companionway steps leading aft to starboard, a spacious chef’s galley with Corian countertops provides a large and beautifully functional prep and cooking space along with impressive amounts of storage for short or long journeys.  Just as great residential architecture focuses on a kitchen-central design theme, VISION QUEST’s galley is visually and physically connected to the nav station and main salon – perfect for entertaining and communication throughout the yacht.  Notable features include an efficient well-insulated and sealed dual zone refrigeration system, a 3-burner Princess gimballed stove, a stainless-steel double bowl sink, a Sharp microwave and opening ports for easy ventilation.  There is a TON of counterspace for cooking and meal prep as well as a TON of storage with deep cabinetry to both starboard and port.

Stepping aft through the starboard galley, you enter into the private aft owner’s stateroom with en-suite head and stall shower.  Owners enjoy the aft third of the yacht in complete privacy.  A centerline queen berth is easily accessed from either side with full wrap-around passage to port and starboard.  There is excellent storage throughout the cabin, including large drawers, two hanging lockers, and individual nightstand storage areas to port and starboard of the forward-facing bed.  A private en-suite head is located to port that features a separate shower compartment and an electric head.  The primary cabin has reverse cycle air conditioning and heat, as well as a large overhead opening hatch and multiple side opening ports for great ventilation and natural light when weather permits.

The forward guest stateroom is a large v-berth forward of the salon.  Stepping through the starboard cabin door, there is a private en-suite head to port that features a separate shower compartment and an electric head.  The v-berth is a double bed with a ton of storage above and below the berth with cabinets, pull-out drawers, and a hanging locker, an overhead opening hatch and three opening cabintop side ports.  There is reverse-cycle marine air conditioning and heat.

A great cruising yacht is all about great support systems, a place to put them, and easy access.  It’s common on yachts in this size range to shoehorn in gear into hard to access places.  Not with VISION QUEST.  Here engine room is spacious and access is superb from all four sides.  If needed, you can actually get into the engine room to get two hands on equipment as needed.  Her Yanmar 4JH3TE four-cylinder diesel propels the yacht easily at 6.5-7.5 knots at cruise. There's a dedicated genset installation space in the work room to port at the base of the companionway steps.

The owners have organized all available technical information/manuals on the hardware and systems of the vessel. They have also constructed a 50+ page Operations Manual that describes the systems - as installed - and their operation.
