DESCRIPTION

Successor to the Sun Odyssey 349, a tremendous success, this efficient, easy-to-handle cruising sailboat features clever innovations for the comfort of all on board and for the pleasure of sailing. The Sun Odyssey 350 features a distinctive, contemporary silhouette. Her bow stands clear of the waterline, facilitating docking manoeuvres and handling in light wind. High-performance and responsive at the helm, she is distinguished from her predecessor by innovation to further improve quality of life in the cockpit. Walkaround sidedecks facilitate handling and ease of movement. With this clever layout, there are no obstacles to interrupt the flow of movement on board. The helmsperson benefits from enhanced comfort and better forward visibility due to off-centred aft helms with twin steering wheels.

For superb cruises with family, this sailboat features a welcoming saloon with a contemporary design. Interior living spaces are bathed in light, streaming through wide windows in the hull and coachroof. In the evening, indirect lighting contributes to a warm, serene atmosphere on board. With standing headroom of over 1.85 metres throughout, the saloon and cabins feel spacious and inviting. Aboard the Sun Odyssey 350, pursue your passion for the sea and sea spray with greater well-being and peace of mind.

ADDITIONAL INFO

The smallest of the exciting Sun Odyssey line, the new 350 (35’9” with bowsprit) is every bit a performance cruising boat with all the design innovation and modern features of the other Sun Odyssey models.

The boat has the full-length chine found on every Sun Odyssey, which increases initial stability and improves comfort under way. The slightly inverted bow and full beam all the way aft are also key elements of the Marc Lombard-design. The wide stern lends itself to the use of twin rudders to keep a spade rudder fully immersed. The stern features a fold-down transom which provides a modern solution when anchored for boarding access as well as a comfortable swim platform for everyone onboard.

The Sun Odyssey 350 has the outstanding walk-around side decks now a standard feature of all Sun Odyssey boats. These side decks allow crew to move from cockpit to side deck without stepping over cockpit structures and winches. This is a great improvement in safety for everyone moving about the boat and provides the helmsman with an excellent location from which to drive the boat under sail or power without the clutter and tight quarters of traditional sailboat cockpits.

Three keel options are available on the boat: a cast iron deep keel of 6’5”, a 4’9” shoal draft keel, and a swing lift keel that operates from 8’4” to 4’2”. The majority of owners who cruise Chesapeake Bay and along the East Coast follow the recommendation of Crusader Yachts, the Annapolis-based Jeanneau dealer, to choose the shoal draft keel. It has proven the best all-around choice for those cruising the East Coast and is recommended for anyone headed to the Bahamas or Florida. The slight tradeoff in sailing performance is more than justified by the benefits of a shoal draft boat.

Close quarter maneuvering is easy with the twin rudders and available tunnel-mounted bow thruster, and crew handling dock lines will have added confidence from the tall lifelines from the safety of the protected side decks.

The boat comes with a 29hp Yanmar diesel with traditional shaft drive, and there is an optional folding Flexofold propeller to replace the standard fixed three-blade prop. Your Crusader Yachts broker will be happy to discuss the advantages of this option.

The standard boat has a two-cabin layout with a single large head. The forward cabin contains a double berth with cabinets and lockers for clothes and other items. An aft cabin is located on the starboard side and also has a double berth and hanging locker. The separate shower compartment adjacent to the head on the port side provides entry into the sail locker/storage area that is also accessible from an overhead cockpit locker.

An alternative layout has two aft cabins, as the port-side aft cabin reconfigures the sail locker space.

Jeanneau provides several optional equipment and hardware packages that help tailor the boat to buyers’ specific needs. These options allow the serious sailor to focus on higher performance sails and sail handling gear, as well as downwind equipment for a spinnaker and Code 0. There are also optional cruise equipment packages that can include a dodger, solar panel, outboard bracket, and other cruising essentials. Electronics are offered in several levels of capability to match the intended use of the boat, from casual daytime trips to occasional offshore and coastal passages.

Working through these optional equipment and layouts is where it helps to work with a Jeanneau dealer with extensive product knowledge around the waters where the boats will be mostly used. For Chesapeake Bay, this is Crusader Yachts in Annapolis. Crusader’s brokers and staff use their extensive sailing and cruising expertise to assist the new buyer. In-depth knowledge of the Chesapeake Bay and area cruising is invaluable when choosing equipment, layout, and sail packages that balance function with performance.

How one intends to use the boat is a major element of selecting the right boat and fitting the right equipment for that use. Ultimately that is key to a successful sailing experience. Most acknowledge that air conditioning is important on Chesapeake Bay during the summer months. Incorporating this comfort system into outfitting a new boat is part of what your Crusader broker brings to the process.

Deciding on anchoring gear, dodger/canvas work, and even which outdoor grill is a good fit for the boat is all part of what your Crusader broker does to put together the best Sun Odyssey 350 for you and your family. Being able to continue sailing in the 8-12 knots of wind typical during most summer days on the Bay, using the right sailplan, makes all the difference between sailing fun and motoring home in frustration.

The Sun Odyssey 350 from Jeanneau is the right size for many just starting out in sailing, or whose cruising plans do not include frequent guests. It may be the perfect Sun Odyssey model for those who just want a great sailing boat and no longer require the complexity and maintenance of a large yacht. For many downsizing sailors, less is more.
