M/Y MIZU is a distinctive 174-foot (53.03m) ocean-going motor yacht combining serious long-range capability with an unusually spacious and sophisticated interior. Her striking exterior profile, contemporary Asian-inspired Modern-Deco interior, expansive teak decks, dedicated Owner’s deck, and impressive entertainment spaces give her a character that is difficult to duplicate.
Built with an aluminum hull and superstructure and teak decks across all three levels, MIZU was designed for extended cruising and is capable of transpacific and transatlantic range. With twin MTU 16V4000 engines producing 3,750 HP each, she can reach speeds of up to 28 knots while maintaining an economical cruising capability at lower speeds.
A major attraction is the extensive work completed during her 2023 refit. The program included comprehensive servicing of the main engines, major overhauls of both generators, extensive work to the exhaust systems, overhaul of the deck cranes, anchor windlasses, capstans and boarding passerelle, significant hydraulic-system work, bow thruster and stabilizer work, air-conditioning and refrigeration service, watermaker overhaul, hull and bottom work, replacement of service and emergency batteries, monitoring-system upgrades, wheelhouse electronics upgrades, teak-deck work, CCTV improvements, and cleaning and inspection of all tanks.
MIZU also completed her Bureau Veritas class inspection in September 2023, with the next inspection due in September 2028. She is maintained to commercial standards and is registered under the Cayman Islands flag.
The yacht's expansive exterior decks provide exceptional space for entertaining and enjoying life underway. The sun deck is particularly impressive, featuring a large central Jacuzzi capable of accommodating up to 14 guests, built-in seating, a wet bar and barbecue, sun loungers, an outdoor shower and bathroom, and a semi-fixed awning providing shade over the forward and Jacuzzi areas.
The aft deck provides substantial tender storage, with capacity for two 25-foot tenders when underway. The tenders are handled by port and starboard 5,500-pound-capacity Nautical Structures cranes. The yacht also features a hydraulic passerelle, Marquipt boarding ladders, hydraulic anchor equipment and substantial deck machinery.
The dedicated Owner's deck provides an exceptional level of privacy and separation from the guest areas.
Forward is the wheelhouse, with walk-around exterior decks, multiple helm positions, a central chart table and extensive navigation and communications equipment.
The private Owner's suite is positioned aft of the wheelhouse and benefits from excellent natural light, views and privacy. The master stateroom features a centerline king berth, extensive storage, a built-in refrigerator and private access through the Owner's lobby.
The Owner's bathroom includes a Jacuzzi tub, steam shower, heated towel bars, his-and-her sinks and a separate toilet and bidet room.
Further aft is the Owner's salon/sky lounge, with a large entertainment center, wet bar, refrigerator, icemaker, game/dining table and comfortable seating. Double doors open onto the exterior dining deck, which includes a teak dining table, built-in seating, wet bar and TV.
The main deck is arranged for both formal entertaining and comfortable extended cruising.
The main galley is located forward to port and includes a large dry-storage area, walk-in freezer and refrigerator rooms, extensive working space and a serving pantry with crew access.
The formal dining salon features large windows, seating for ten and extensive storage. A central staircase with a skylight and atrium effect creates a striking architectural feature connecting the decks.
The main salon is located farther aft and features an entertainment center, comfortable settees, game table and full stand-up bar. Large glass doors open onto the aft deck, creating an excellent flow between the interior and exterior entertaining areas.
MIZU accommodates guests in four well-appointed guest suites located amidships on the lower deck.
The two forward guest suites feature queen berths, vanity desks and ensuite bathrooms with heated towel bars, tubs and showers.
The two aft guest suites feature twin berths, vanity desks and ensuite bathrooms with heated towel bars, two sinks and tubs with showers. The toilets are located in separate rooms.
The crew accommodations are equally well considered, with four crew cabins, each with ensuite facilities and substantial storage. A dedicated crew mess, crew galley and laundry are also provided, with direct access to the guest accommodation areas to facilitate discreet and efficient service.
MIZU is powered by twin MTU 16V4000 diesel engines, each producing 3,750 HP, driving five-blade fixed-pitch propellers. She carries approximately 22,000 gallons of fuel and 3,807 gallons of fresh water.
Reported performance includes speeds of up to 28 knots, a 20-knot cruising speed and an economical operating speed of approximately 11 knots. The published consumption figures are calculated with a 20% fuel reserve.
The yacht is equipped with two 150 kW Northern Lights generators, an Atlas 125 kW shore-power converter, two HEM watermakers, SeaState ride-control stabilizers, a Quantum hydraulic bow thruster, Alfa Laval fuel separation and filtration, Hamann sewage treatment and DVZ bilge-water filtration.
MIZU carries a comprehensive navigation and communications package including Furuno X-band and S-band radar, C. Plath gyro and autopilot systems, multiple Furuno navigation systems, Northstar GPS units, Transas electronic charts, AIS, Navtex, SSB, multiple VHF systems, satellite communications and a centralized vessel IT network.
Entertainment and communications extend throughout the yacht, including Sea Tel satellite television, multiple flat-screen televisions, individual sound systems throughout public areas and staterooms, and a wireless network.
The main galley is equipped with commercial-grade cooking and refrigeration equipment, including Vulcan, Hobart, Miele, Sub-Zero and Scotsman appliances.
The yacht also features a dedicated crew galley and mess, multiple bars throughout the yacht, and a well-equipped laundry with two large-capacity washing machines, two tumble dryers and a Miele roller iron.
The 2023 refit represents a significant investment in the yacht and included, among other items:
Complete servicing of both main engines, including lubricants, filters, coolant and valve adjustments, along with major seawater-pump work.
Major mechanical overhauls of both diesel generators, including seawater and bilge systems, sea chests, overboard valves and associated piping.
Replacement and repair of sections of the main-engine wet exhaust systems.
Major overhaul of the port and starboard tender cranes, anchor windlasses, capstans and boarding passerelle, including crane load testing to Bureau Veritas requirements.
Major hydraulic-system work involving the PTO pumps, electrical pump, emergency power pack, bow thruster, stabilizer system and hydraulic cylinders.
Overhaul of steering and flap hydraulic cylinders.
Comprehensive air-conditioning and refrigeration service, including compressors, seawater pumps, fan coils, filters and installation of a new deep-freezer compressor.
Overhaul of the Hamann sewage system and vacuum pump.
Watermaker chemical cleaning and flushing, sand-filter replacement and major overhaul of the high-pressure pumps and motors.
Hull-bottom work including aluminum shell-plate replacement as required, replacement of zinc anodes and antifouling.
Replacement of all service and emergency batteries.
Hull paint touch-up and complete polishing.
Installation of a new vessel monitoring system in accordance with Bureau Veritas requirements.
Wheelhouse upgrades including radar, ECDIS, display and wing-station improvements.
Sun-deck teak replacement and sanding of the main and sun decks.
Restoration and upgrading of the CCTV system, including two new engine-room cameras.
Cleaning and inspection of all tanks.
MIZU offers an unusual combination of size, speed, range, commercial capability and entertaining space. Her military-influenced exterior styling gives her a strong presence, while the interior offers a substantially different experience with warm, contemporary spaces and an impressive amount of natural light.
The combination of a dedicated Owner's deck, four guest suites, extensive crew facilities, large exterior entertaining areas, 14-person Jacuzzi, substantial tender capacity, commercial classification and the breadth of work completed during the 2023 refit makes MIZU a particularly interesting yacht for an owner seeking something beyond the conventional luxury motor yacht.
