1981 Beneteau First 42

Annapolis, Maryland

$74,900

One of the most competitive and stable sailboats of its time, the Beneteau First 42 was designed by the Argentinian architect Germán Frers and recognized in Ferenc Mate's "World's Best Sailboats". Frers yachts have won every major trophy around the world including the Admiral´s Cup, Bermuda Race, Transpac, Whitbread Round the World Race, SORC, Kenwood Cup, San Francisco Big Boat Series, the Two Ton Cup, Maxi World Championships, ILC championships, Louis Vuitton Cup on two occasions, among others.

“The design brief for the First 42 was a fast family cruiser / racer. Beneteau had, and continues to have, very precise building methods and specifications for their production boats including lamination, materials, interior requirements, and rigs. I worked closely with the people at Beneteau, Francois Chalain and Mme. Roux, in the design in order to meet their criteria, which I felt was very sensible and based on solid building experience, which resulted in very good value for (one’s) money.” - German Frers.

CHARDONNAY is a nice 1981 example of this classic racer/ cruiser. With two cabins, two heads and a full galley, she certainly has what it takes to get you wherever you may want to go quickly and comfortably. CHARDONNAY has a successful racing record on the Chesapeake Bay (including winning the Governor's Cup Race twice) and placing third in class at Block Island.

Some of CHARDONNAY’s highlights:

Disclosure Statement

CHARDONNAY sustained damage in July of 2022 from a leak caused by a marina placing a strap from the travel lift over the prop shaft creating a way for water to leak into the vessel. The leak was discovered within hours, and Chardonnay was immediately hauled and the water removed. All the wiring and mechanical parts that were exposed to salt water have been replaced and there is no evidence of any remaining problems caused by the leak. However, seller is willing to warrant for one year from purchase all electrical and mechanical systems from damage that can be reasonably related to exposure to saltwater leaking into the vessel and to create an escrow fund of $20,000 to cover the cost of any repairs made necessary by exposure to salt water.
